Disks. Data. Deliberate decisions.

Storage.
Without the
dark arts.

Your data deserves better than crossed fingers and a mysterious collection of disks. Get practical help with Linux storage, LVM, RAID, filesystems, encryption, migration and recovery — explained in plain English, without sacrificing technical detail.

Our storage expertise

From raw disks
to reliable data.

Storage can be wonderfully flexible — right up until it becomes wonderfully confusing. We can help you understand what you have, choose a sensible design, and make changes without treating your data as an experimental substance.

Linux Storage & LVM

Make storage easier to manage and adapt as requirements change.

  • Physical volumes, volume groups and logical volumes
  • Extending, reducing and moving storage safely
  • Thin provisioning and capacity planning

RAID & Resilience

Plan for disk failures before a disk decides to demonstrate one.

  • RAID levels and trade-offs
  • LVM RAID and storage layout
  • Disk replacement and recovery planning

Filesystems

Choose and maintain the right filesystem for the job.

  • Ext4, XFS and filesystem maintenance
  • Mounting, UUIDs and /etc/fstab
  • Space usage and performance investigation

Encryption with LUKS

Keep stored data private when the hardware leaves your control.

  • LUKS setup and encrypted volumes
  • Boot-time unlocking and /etc/crypttab
  • Keyfiles, recovery keys and threat modelling

Migration & Restructuring

Move data or redesign storage with a plan rather than a prayer.

  • Moving data between disks and servers
  • Planning downtime and rollback
  • Verifying integrity after migration

Troubleshooting & Recovery

Investigate a storage problem methodically and protect what remains.

  • Full filesystems and unexpected capacity loss
  • LVM and mount failures
  • Recovery options and safe next steps
A few rules worth remembering

Resilience is a design choice.

RAID can help a system survive certain disk failures. LVM can make storage flexible. Encryption can protect data at rest. None of these removes the need to understand the risks and test your recovery plan.

Most importantly: RAID does not equal backup. A robust design starts by knowing what can fail, what matters most, and how you will get your data back.

✳ Hope is not a recovery strategy.
●   ●   ●     root@storage:~
# A quick look before making changes
root@storage:~# lsblk
NAME TYPE SIZE MOUNTPOINTS
sda disk 3.6T
└─data-lv lvm 3.6T /srv/data

# Check the facts, not the vibes
root@storage:~# df -h /srv/data
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use%
/dev/mapper/data 3.6T 2.1T 1.5T 59%

# And then verify the backup...
root@storage:~# restore-test
# The most reassuring command is the one you actually tested.
